Buchanan Native Was Immanuel Baptist Church Member

Betty Jean Johnson Brown, age 85, of 1710 Main Street and formerly of Route 42 Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Saturday, June 22, 2019 at her residence.

She was born February 22, 1934 in Buchanan, Virginia to the late Harold Clinton Johnson and Gladys Downs Johnson.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, a cook for the Griffith Knob Hunt Club for over 32 years, and enjoyed sewing and knitting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul B. Brown; a brother, Clinton Johnson; a half-brother, William Duncan; two sisters, Ruth Linkenhoker and Wanda Taylor; a son-in-law, Butch Madison and a great grandson, James E. Broughman, Jr.

She is survived by four daughters, Donna M. Nicely and husband, Keith, Peggy Carpenter and husband, Gene, Denise G. Brown, all of Clifton Forge; Lisa Tingler and husband, Muttsy of Millboro; two sons, Roger Brown and wife, Margaret, Ricky Brown and wife, Lisa, both of Clifton Forge; step brother, Fred Duncan and wife, Sherry of Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia; eleven grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; special friends, Roger Tucker of Covington; and caregiver, Mellisa Nicholson.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge with grandson, Josh Madison officiating. Interment will immediately follow. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
