William Stuart Preston Chittum, 83, passed peacefully at his home in Lexington, Virginia on Sunday, June 23, 2019.

Bill "Stretch" Chittum was born June 22, 1936 to the late William B. and Frances Straub Chittum.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his brother, Robert A. "Bobby" Chittum, and sister, Martha"Sue" Chittum.

He is survived by his younger brother, James A. "Jimmy" and Diana "Kay" Chittum Ayres; three children, Cheryl C. Link, John W. Chittum and Jennifer Chittum Wainwright; two granddaughters, Carrie Heslep Williams and Taylor Chittum Peek; two great-grandchildren, Cody A. Williams and Evelyn G. Peek.

"Bill on the Hill", as he often referred to himself, served in the U. S. Marine Corps and retired from the Virginia Department of Highways. With his larger than life personality and 6'7" stature, Bill loved life and never met a stranger! In his early years he was a high school basketball star, and was an avid deer hunter in his adult years.

Cheryl, John and Jennifer wish to thank all for their friendships with our Father over the years.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2019 at Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington.
