Leon Chittum, 72, of Rockbridge Baths, Virginia passed away Monday, June 24, 2019 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital after battling complications from a stroke.

Born November 9, 1946 in Rockbridge County, he was the son of the late John H. and Beulah C. Chittum of Cornwall.

Hershel worked for C. W. Barger for approximately 30 years before retiring.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Eugene; an infant son, John Christopher; and his companion, Junior.

Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Erma; three sons, Rick, Jeff and Kevin, all local; sister-in-law, Lorine of Cornwall; brothers, Stanley O. (Juanita) of Middlebrook, Saford W. (Jane) of Buena Vista, and a sister, Beatrice Nicely (Brandon) of Longdale; eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much; special friends, Kenneth Shaw and Smoky Jo.

A memorial celebration of life will be at a later date.
