Obituary for Betty Lou Persinger Betty Lou Persinger
Alleghany County Native Was Longtime Covington Teacher

Betty Lou Persinger, 83, of 226 East Oak Street, Covington, Virginia died Sunday, July 7, 2019 at The Woodlands Health and Rehab Center in Clifton Forge.

She was born November 9, 1935 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Basil and Louise Campbell Persinger.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Nadine Keys, and three cousins, Harry Persinger, Sr., James Persinger and Peter P. Persinger.

She was a graduate of Radford University, was employed by the Covington City School System for 34 years and taught at the former Rivermont Elementary School for 31 years.

She was raised on Oak Street by her parents and grandparents and loved quilting and children.

Surviving are her nrother-in-law, Stanley Keys of Manassas, and several cousins including Bertha "Bertie" Persinger and Charles and Sharon Persinger, all of Covington; and Dorothy Persinger of Hopewell, Marvin and Mae Persinger of Roanoke and Harry and Hazel Persinger of Covington.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Duncan officiating.

Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for one hour before the service at Arritt Funeral Home and at other times at the residence Harry and Hazel Persinger, 313 E. Chestnut St.

The family suggests that donation in her name be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital;, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
