Fairfield Resident Dies At The Age Of 96

Arlene M. Gallichant Billings of Fairfield, Virginia passed away July 1, 2019 at the age of 96.

Ms. Billings was born and grew up in Danielson, Conn., before coming to Virginia six years ago. She was educated at the St. James School and the Killingly High School where she graduated in 1942. She married Sylvio Billings in 1945 after he returned from duty in World War II and their marriage lasted 57 years until Mr. Billings' death in 2002.

She worked in an aircraft plant during the war and in a Danielson insurance office, and finally for the State of Connecticut, retiring in 1984.

She is survived by her only daughter, Jacqueline Billings Briganti of Fairfield and husband, Lou Briganti, as well as two grandchildren, Elena Briganti Phipps and Christiana Briganti Dunn, and five great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Billings was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lexington and previously of St. James Catholic Church of Danielson, Connecticut, where she was also a member of the St. Theresa Guild and the Killingly High School Alumni Association.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 12:15 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2019 and a funeral mass later at St. James Catholic Church in Danielson, where she will be interred alongside her husband.
