Obituary for Bruce Norman Hasfurther Bruce Norman Hasfurther
Rockbridge County Resident Was High School French Teacher

Bruce Norman Hasfurther, of Rockbridge County, died July 21, 2019.

He was was born in Springfield, Ill., December 8, 1951. He grew up in Severna Park, Maryland, where he ran track in high school.

He received a bachelor of arts in history from Washington and Lee University. After graduation, he lived two years in Paris, where he studied at the Sorbonne.

Returning to the United States, he earned a master of arts in French from Johns Hopkins University. He taught high school French at The Darlington School in Rome, Ga., and Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. He retired to Rockbridge County where he enjoyed gardening and photography. With a big heart for animals, he took in many a stray cat.

He is survived by his brother, Don Hasfurther.
