Alleghany County Native Worked In Accounting; Was McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church Member

Mrs. Linda Susan Hicks Jones, age 68, of Covington, Virginia died Monday, July 22, 2019, at her residence.

She was the wife of Orville Kenton "Kenny" Jones to whom she would have been married forty-eight years on July 26, 2019.

Mrs. Jones was born May 15, 1951 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Howard Hicks and Trudy Gertrude Givens Hicks.

During her working career, she was employed in the accounting department by both the former State Bank of the Alleghenies and Boys' Home.

Linda was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was also a Special Olympics Coach and enjoyed reading, cooking, playing cards and bingo. Most of all, Linda loved her grandchildren and spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, Kenny, Mrs. Jones is survived by a son, Brian K. Jones of Covington; six grandchildren, Scotti Browning and wife, Karie, Kristen Rose and boyfriend, Sam Shirley, Landen Jones, Londyn Jones, Khai Jones and Melissa Jones; her stepmother, Arnetta Hicks; five brothers, Darell Hicks and wife, Phoebe of Covington, Rocky Hicks and wife, Frances of Covington, Jim Hicks and wife, JoAnn of Kentucky, Tinker Hicks and wife, Marla of Covington and Paul "Beaver" Hicks and wife, Jennifer of Covington; three sisters, Sherry H. Wolfe and husband, Darrell of Covington, Belva Hicks Brookman and husband, Sherman of Covington; and Barbara H. Sullivan of South Carolina; eight nieces; twelve nephews; a number of great nieces and great nephews; and a special caregiver Sissy Mattox. Also a very special thank you to Peg Walton for taking care of Linda as well as her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Susan Browning and two infant sisters.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2019 at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with Gary Tingler officiating, assisted by Rev. Paul Brokaw. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Mike Browning, Scotti Browning, Sam Shirley, Jay Mattox, Orville Ayers and Perry Jones.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.
