Obituary for Emmett Lee Simmons Emmett Lee Simmons
Covington Resident Was Marine Corps Veteran

Emmett Lee Simmons, 89, of 1545 S. Greenlawn Avenue, Covington, Virginia went to be with the Lord Saturday, August 10, 2019.

Mr. Simmons was born March 11, 1930 in Alleghany County, a son of the late James Floyd Simmons and Roxie Tucker Simmons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Dora Rodenizer Simmons in 2003; a son, Gary Simmons; three sisters, Ruby Ann Walton, Dorothy Kimberlin and Ethel Simmons; three brothers, James Simmons, Leonard Simmons, and Kenneth Simmons.

Emmett served in the United States Marine Corps form 1951 through 1953.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to garden, providing family and friends with fresh vegetables. He loved helping his neighbors. Most importantly, he spent every day loving and worrying about his family.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Teresa Jane Simmons of Covington and Randy and Kim Simmons of Vinton; two daughters, Kathy and Shane Mentz, and Teresa and Billy Gibson, both of Covington; ten grandchildren, Lisa and Scott Bradley, Steven and Shannon Simmons, Jennifer and Bobby Smith, Kimberly and Kevin Alvey, Harry and Rebecca Simmons, Christopher and Morgan Mentz, Shari and Tony Saville, Tyler and Jessie Simmons, Heather and Matthew Baum, and Ashley Walton; nineteen great-grandchildren, Shawna, Logan, Kelsey, Isabella, Elsie, Kayla, Robert, Courtney, Zachary, Kyleigh, Emma, Brett, Karis, Aaliyah, Alexis, Jacob, Luna, Karsten, and Kaylee; six great great grandchildren, Jeffrey, Aubrey, Logan, Lane, and Maren, Abram; one brother, Charles Simmons; one sister-in-law, Betty Simmons; one brother-in-law, Wayne and Gwen Rodenizer; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Bill Gibson, Frank and Beverly Hepler, Pam and Vaughn Douglas, and Donna and Steve Poznanski.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating, assisted by Rev. David Brown.

Interment will be at Alleghany Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence of Teresa and Billy Gibson, 110 Stillwater Drive.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Mountain Regional Hospice, 537 Main St., Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
