Former Goshen Resident Was Ordained Gospel Of Christ Minister For 65 Years

The Rev. Thomas Guinn Kerns of Medina, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at the age of 90.

Rev. Kerns (Uncle Pete, Uncle Tom, Brother Tom) was born in Charleston, WV to Wayland and Margaret Kerns. He grew up in the mountains of Goshen, Virginia.

The Rev. Kerns' mother was Margaret Kerns Hull of Goshen. His four siblings are Ray Hamilton Kerns (deceased), the Rev. Natalie Kerns McWilliams, Peggy Kerns Whittington (deceased) and Carolyn Kerns Stearns.

After graduating from Goshen High School, Tom went on to Lynchburg College to earn his B.A. From there he went on to Vanderbilt University and earned his Bachelor of Divinity degree. He was an ordained minister for 65 years with the Disciples of Christ denomination. He served many churches in Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia and Ohio.

He was married to Jeanie Kerns for 32 years. Together, their blended family consists of seven children.

Family and church were most important in his life. He was a loving husband and father and will be deeply missed.
