Obituary for Richard Cletis Taylor Richard Cletis Taylor
WestRock Retiree Was Longtime Coach At Callaghan Elementary School

Mr. Richard Cletis Taylor, age 74, of Covington, Virginia lost his battle with cancer on August 28, 2019 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor.

He was the husband of Dianna Smith Taylor.

Richard was born September 1, 1944 in Scarbro, WV, the son of the late John Cletis Taylor and Margaret Burgess Taylor Romero.

He graduated in 1963 from Mount Hope High School in West Virginia. Richard and Dianna were high school sweethearts, marrying on October 31, 1964.

He worked at WestRock paper mill in Covington for forty-four years, retiring in 2008.

Richard was a little league coach for boys' basketball, baseball and football at Callaghan Elementary. He was deeply loved by his family and his entire community being well known as the "go to man" for all things needing fixed. Richard was a private man, but enjoyed sharing his love for making bottle lamps for friends and neighbors.

In addition to his wife of fifty-five years, Dianna Taylor, Mr. Taylor is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Taylor Treacy; a son, Richard Cletis Taylor, Jr.; grandchildren, Annabelle Treacy, Alex Treacy, Christian Taylor, Jordan Taylor; and his sister, Patricia Adkins and husband, Steve Adkins.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Willey and a brother, Kenneth Taylor.

A Celebration of Life service honoring Richard will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Price officiating.

The family will receive their friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at the church.
