Mrs. Annette Ellen Byer-McFadden, age 61, of Covington, Virginia died Thursday, August 29, 2019 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor.

She was the wife of Larry W. McFadden.

Mrs. Byer-McFadden was born December 13, 1957 in Covington, the daughter of the late Charles Byron Byer and Ellen Louise Thurston Byer.

A lifetime resident of this community, she was employed as a schoolteacher with the Covington School System for forty years. During her tenure, Annette was a speech therapist, a teacher for the hearing impaired, an interpreter for the deaf, an audiologist, and an advanced math teacher as well as other subjects for K-12.

She loved to paint and was an animal rights activist as well as human rights activist.

Annette was musically talented and played multiple instruments. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family including her sisters and special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Byer-McFadden is survived by four sisters, Joan Byer Hawse and husband, Charles, Debra Byer, Anita Byer McGuire and husband, Robert and Joy Byer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Byer-McFadden was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Byer Topping.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Mallow Presbyterian Church.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-9959 and American Cancer Society, 9 East Church Avenue, Roanoke VA 24011.
