Hercules Retiree Was First Christian Church Member, Avid Dale Earnhardt Fan

Mr. Aaron OBrian Smith, Jr., 78, of Covington, Virginia died Friday, August 30, 2019, at his residence.

He was the husband of Virginia Reed Smith.

Mr. Smith was born April 12, 1941 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Aaron O'Brian Smith Sr. and Opal Stalnaker Smith Powell.

Mr. Smith was a lifetime resident of the Callaghan and Johnsons Creek area and was employed by Hercules, Inc., where he retired after 30 years.

He was a member of First Christian Church.

Mr. Smith enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was an avid Dale Earnhardt and Chevrolet fan. He also enjoyed watching his faithful Washington Redskins and Virginia Cavaliers play football.

In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, Mr. Smith is survived by three sons, Aaron O'Brian Smith III and wife, Lynda of Richmond, Dwayne Edward Smith of Roanoke and Mark Andrew Smith and wife, Kristina of Covington; two brothers, Oscar Lee Smith and John Alden Smith; two sisters, Lorraine Smith Duncan and Jewel Smith Hannah; four grandchildren, Xavier Storey, Aaron Smith, Riley Smith and Christine Suich; two great grandchildren, Gavyn Suich and Mason Suich and a great-great grandchild, Ayden Carnes; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Denys Vincent and a great granddaughter, Kayla Smith.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 3, 2019 from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Johnson Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to First Christian Church, 221 E. Fudge St. Covington.
