Obituary for David Marvin Cauley Sr. David Marvin Cauley Sr.
Monterey Resident Was Sheet Metal Mechanic, Carpenter

David Marvin Cauley Sr., 82, of Monterey, Virginia passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Hot Springs, September 25, 1936, a son of the late Luella Virginia (Lockridge) and Arthur Brown Cauley, Sr.

On June 9, 1956, he married Shirley May Walker.

A sheet metal mechanic and carpenter all his life, David subcontracted for many businesses. After retiring, he enjoyed spending his time mowing grass, cutting wood and remodeling his home with his wife. He could also be found by the river casting his line or on the mountainside hunting. Most often, David would be found being the "dumpster police" on Route 84, for Highland County Solid Waste and striking up conversations, no matter where he was.

Above all, David will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and caretaker to his two "girls", Sophie and Peppa.

In addition to his wife, Shirley of 63 years, he is survived by his daughter, Rhonda "Kay" Hull and husband, Gary "Beef" of Monterey; his son, David "Davy" M. Cauley Jr. and wife, Gwen, of Monterey; a brother, Arthur B. Cauley Jr. and wife, Joan of Mechanicsville; a sister, Gayle Castillo of Staunton; four grandchildren, Trey Williams and wife, Heidi of Monterey, Danny Hull of Monterey; Lauren Dunbrack and husband, Michael of Seebert, WV and Emily Smith and husband, David of Monterey; as well as his seven great-grandchildren, Colton Williams, Bly Hull, Patton Hull, Brylee Dunbrack, Brooke Williams, Kennedi Hiner and Taelyn Dunbrack.

David was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, James Cauley and Billy McFadden.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Obaugh Funeral Home with pastor Chip Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the newly established Cauley Family Cemetery behind David's home on Mill Gap Road.

The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, September 10 at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Trey Williams, Danny Hull, Colton Williams, Gary Hull, Bill Crisp and Rocky Waybright.

Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends in attendance.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Highland County Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 268, Monterey or Highland County Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 267, Monterey, Va. 24465.

The O'Baugh Funeral Home, McDowell, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
