Obituary for Eleanor Irvine Snyder Eleanor Irvine Snyder
Longtime Fairfield Resident Was Marlbrook Baptist Church Member

Eleanor Irvine Snyder, 94, of Fairfield, Virginia, widow of Francis W. Snyder, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, September 18, 2019.

She was born on January 2, 1925 in Lexington, a daughter of the late Elbert C. Irvine and Zola M. Irvine.

In addition to her parents and loving husband of 68 years, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ray Chittum, and four sisters and one brother.

She was a faithful member of Marlbrook Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher, choir member and in various other church activities for over 40 years. She was a homemaker and an active member of the Fairfield Senior Citizens the years it was in existence. She loved meeting people and never met a stranger.

Surviving are her four children, Mary Frances Chittum of Raphine, Earl W. Snyder of Augusta, Ga., Ruth Ann Snyder of Fairfield, and D. Eugene Snyder and wife, Debbie of Dallas, Ga.; four grandchildren, April Wilson, Adam Clark, Aaron Sousis and Ashleigh Sousis; and five great-grandchildren, Bobby, Aubrey, Jake, Harper and Kenzie. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Oakley of Xenia, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with Pastor John Tilley officiating. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Eleanor's loving memory to the Fairfield Rescue Squad, 5585 N. Lee Hwy, Fairfield, VA 24435.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
