James Arthur Sloan, 74, of 602 N. Beverly Avenue, Covington, Virginia died Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

He was born September 19, 1945 in Botetourt County, a son of the late Arthur Walkup and Allie Belle Campbell Sloan.

He was a retired operator from the wood yard of MeadWestvaco.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Hallie Virginia Porterfield, and Jessie Ann Shupe; and a brother, Wallace Preston Sloan.

He is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Ann Sloan of Clifton Forge; a son, Roman Craig Sloan and wife, Heather of Princeton, WV; three grandchildren, Krystal Sloan, Gabriel Sloan, Summer Sloan; a great-granddaughter, Allie Sloan; the mother of his children and loyal friend, Francine Basham of Covington; and five nephews.

In keeping with his wishes his body has been cremated.

His family will have a time of visitation and fellowship at Central United Methodist Church in Clifton Forge.
