Obituary for Mary Owens Witt Mary Owens Witt
Hematite Native Dies At Age 89

Mrs. Mary Owens Witt, aged 89, of Covington, Virginia died Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the Brian Center Nursing Care, Low Moor.

She was the wife of James Malcolm "Jim" Witt.

Mrs. Witt was born September 17, 1930 in Hematite, the daughter of the late John Jefferson Owens and Mildred Helmintoller Owens.

A resident of this area her entire life, she was a registered nurse for over 35 years. Mary enjoyed fishing and playing horseshoes at the family camp and was a avid bowler. Mrs. Witt was always crafting, crocheting and cross stitching, but her all time favorite was cooking and was famous for her salt rising bread.

Mrs. Witt is survived by three sons, Barry Witt and wife, Lyn, Michael Witt and wife, Robin, and Thomas Witt; three daughters, Patricia Simpson and husband, Jonathan, Sharon Loving-Rainaldi and husband, John, and Ruth Coan and husband, Jim; seven grandchildren, Nathanael Simpson, Steven Witt (Trish), Justin Willis (Amanda), Jessica Willis (Scott), Shannon Witt, Sarah Serber (Daniel), and Jennifer Biggert (Adam); nine great-grandchildren; a brother, James Owens; two sisters, Margaret Deane and Betty Cummings; and numerous nieces and nephews that were dear to her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Witt is preceded in death by a grandchild, Thomas Witt; two brothers, Billy Owens and John Owens; two sisters, Ruth Paulette and Polly Latham.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2019 from the Chapel of Loving Funeral Home, officiated by Bill Smith Jr. and Greg Cummings. Interment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be David Smith, Bill Smith, Justin Willis, Jeff Owens, John Deane and Greg Cummings.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Covington Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 588, Covington VA 24426 or Alleghany Humane Society, 9313 Rich Patch Road, Covington, VA 24426.
