Henry Wyatt Canady joined his daughter, Glenda Karen Canady in heaven on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 11:45 p.m.
He was 95 at the time of his passing.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Ottie Marie Knick Canady. He is also survived by his sons, Wyatt Jackson Canady and Gary Michael Canady, and by his daughters, Deborah Sue Canady and Katrina Roberta Canady Deckard.
Henry and Marie had five children, 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Henry had two half-sisters, Mattie Louise Canady Garcia and Olive Lavern Canady Garcia; and two half-brothers, George Edward Canady and Craig Leon Canady, all deceased.
Henry was a retired Army master sergeant and veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. During World War II, he served with the 26th Infantry Regiment, First Division, the "Big Red One." He was a veteran of the D-Day landing on Omaha Beach. He would also experience the Inchon Landing in the Korean War. During his 22-year career in the Army, he served in Germany, France, Korea and Iran.
He was an autodidact and Jack of all trades. Over the years, he was a soldier, an electronics technician and engineer, a Persian linguist, a building contractor, a boat builder and a commercial fisherman. He was a Master Mason and active in his community. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which he served in numerous clerical and teaching roles. He is remembered for his deep knowledge and humorous observations. He was famous among his family and friends for his baking, particularly his bread.
He was a loving husband and father. He loved serving others and is remembered with great affection and respect by all those that knew him.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 10 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lexington with Bishop Brian Clark officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before service. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery.
