Robert Milton McCloy died peacefully at his home in Lexington, Virginia, surrounded by his loving family, on October 4, 2019 following a short, but courageous battle with cancer.

The son of Milton S. and Grace E. McCloy, Bob was born on June, 1, 1932 in Saginaw, Michigan.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War as a master sergeant and a member of the adjutant general's corps. He received the Bronze Star in recognition of his service. He was an active member of the Army reserve for 16 years.

He was employed by General Motors through his retirement. In 1975 he and his beloved wife Betty moved from Michigan to Longdale Furnace in Alleghany County, where they started the next chapter of their lives. Bob served as president of the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years, where he is remembered for his administration skills and elocution in calling the weekly bingo games.

Bob was a life member of Masonic Lodge #77, Saginaw, Mich., a member of the Rockbridge Civil War Round Table and was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church, Eminence, Ky.

A generous, loving and devoted family man, Bob is survived by his loving wife, Betty; a sister, Shirley Mc-Cloy Sills of LaGrange, Ky.; three children, Mark S. Mc-Cloy, Cheryl M. Shaw, John D. McCloy; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Rock-bridge Area Hospice, 315 Meyers St., Lexington, VA 24450.
