Obituary for James (Jimmy) R. Simpson James (Jimmy) R. Simpson
Former Navy Airman Was First Brethren Church Member

James (Jimmy) R. Simpson of Buena Vista, Virginia went to be with the Lord Friday, October 18, 2019.

He served in the U. S. Navy as an airman, aboard the U.S.S Leyte aircraft carrier from 1955 to 1957.

He was a member of First Brethren Church in Buena Vista. Mr. Simpson faithfully served as an usher and loved his Sunday school class and faith.

He was preceded in death by parents, David and Ruby Simpson and sisters, Shirley Brown, Rosie Floyd and Brenda Ramsey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce Simpson of Buena Vista; daughter,, Trace Comer; grandson Joshua Comer (Laura); great-granddaughter, Caroline Comer, all of High Point, N.C.; dear friend and daughter number two, Anita Smith of Fayetteville, N.C.; brother, Giford Simpson (Saundra) of Buena Vista; special friends, Edna Moran, Helen Breedlove, George and Carle Burch; cherished family members, Lille Comer, Pam Martin, the Wheelers and the Wade Roberts family; the VA nurse, all his hospice nurses and staff; sister-in-law, Charlotte Campbell; numerous nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A special thanks to all who loved Jim and for their prayers. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin and friend and will forever be missed.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the First Brethren Church, Buena Vista, by Pastor Mike Hamilton. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Rockbridge Area Hospice, First Brethren Church or Cats Unlimited.
