Goshen Homemaker Also Was Mill Creek Cafe Waitress

Edith Alleen Hostetter Sampson, 94, of Goshen, Virginia went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 17, 2019 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family.

She was born March 2, 1925 in Collierstown, the daughter of the late William Henry Hostetter and Evalina Wilhelm Hostetter.

Edith was married to Kenneth Lyle Sampson for 69 years, who preceded her in death on January 8, 2011.

She worked as a waitress at the Mill Creek Cafe and was a homemaker during her life, raising six children and helping to raise many of her grandchildren.

Edith enjoyed cooking her family's favorite foods, gardening, canning vegetables, fruit, and preserves, reading her Bible and going to church. She attended Millboro Christian Church.

Edith loved spending time with her grandbabies. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, always putting others before herself.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Sampson Sr.; a daughter, Phyllis Howard; two sons-in-law, Robert O'Neil and Mason Bragg; three sisters and five brothers.

Edith is survived by three daughters, Shirley Bragg of Hayes, Penny Barker and husband, Barry of Salisbury, N.C., and Doris Statler and partner, Wink Broughfman of Millboro; a son, Joey Sampson and wife, Sheila of Goshen; a daughter-in-law, Nina Sampson of Pulaski; son-in-law, Ronnie Howard of Gloucester; 13 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to her caregiver, Linda Smith for being there for her; and caregiver and friend, Ella Stark, for all the tender loving care she gave to her.

A funeral service was conducted Monday, October 21 at Craigsville Funeral Home with Pastor Lloyd Via officiating. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery in Goshen. Pallbearers were her grandchildren.
