John Edward Dean, age 72, of Buchanan, Virginia died Saturday, November 16, 2019 in Botetourt County, Virginia.

He was born July 15, 1947 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, a son of the late Aubrey E. Dean and Jean McGovern Dean.

John was a graduate of Clifton Forge High School and valedictorian of The Class of 1965. He excelled in basketball and baseball along with singing and playing the guitar for The Ragtops, a high school band.

John graduated from The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. After securing his Bachelor's Degree, he attended The College of William and Mary and other Virginia colleges. He later obtained his insurance license from The Hartford School of Insurance, Hartford, CT.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas P. Dean and is survived by a brother, Robert Mark Dean, MD; sister-in-law, Mary Anne Dean, Clifton Forge; two nieces, Catherine Dean Wright and her husband, Jason, San Anselmok, CA and Kelly Dean Madsen and her husband, Greg of Clifton Forge.

John is also survived by two great nephews, Brian Christopher Wright and Gabriel Thomas Wright, San Anselmo, CA; three cousins, John Pugliese, IL, Dr. Richard Pugliese, IL, Dr. Ronald Dean, KY; and special friend, Ann Carroll.

A private family service was held at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, on Tuesday, November 18, 2019. Interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.
