Obituary for Lorena (Lee) Betsch Nelson Lorena (Lee) Betsch Nelson
Longtime Former Homestead Secretary Dies At Age 95

Lorena (Lee) Betsch Nelson, 95, of Daleville, Virginia passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019 at The Glebe.

She was born December 4, 1923 in Streeter, North Dakota, the daughter of the late Gotlob & Katherina Staib Betsch.

After high school graduation, Mrs. Nelson completed two years of business college. She was a Secretary at the Homestead Resort with over 30 years of service.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Hot Springs Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder, Scholarship Chair, and a member of the Organization Buildings & Grounds committee.

She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and supported school youth activities and academics. She was especially fond of Bath County High School Band, Music, and Theatre. Mrs. Nelson enjoyed mailing birthday cards and newspaper clippings to family and friends. She was a staunch supporter of The Homestead staff, guests and families who visited. Mrs. Nelson was a faithful Washington Redskins football fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Hansen Nelson, who passed away on August 17, 2000.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by a son, Jerry Nelson and wife, Ale of Buenos Aires, Argentina; a granddaughter, Jennifer Nelson and her mother, Rebecca Nelson Scott and husband, Henry of Milledgeville, Georgia; and special friends, Rick and Sharon Fry of Troutville, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Martha Hoffer, Ella LaBranhe, and Virginia Seher.

A "service in witness to the resurrection" will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Hot Springs Presbyterian Church. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Scott Conrad, Pastor of the Hot Springs Presbyterian Church and the Reverend Ray Cobb, a former pastor of Hot Springs Presbyterian Church and current pastor of Triangle Grace Church in Durham, NC.

As per her request, her body will be donated to science.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Hot Springs Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 476, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445.
