Mary Kathryn Martin, 69, of Lexington, Virginia passed away Friday, December 6, 2019 at The Mayflower.

Born August 16, 1950 in Temple, Texas, she was a daughter of the late J. Wade McCormick and Kathryn L. Whitaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert "Bill" Torrence.

Mary spent much her life in south Florida before moving to Lexington, where she worked at W&L. Later, she and Bill became owner/operators of Fancy Hill Restaurant in Natural Bridge before retiring.

Surviving are her daughter, Melissa K. Alexander and son-in-law David and their children, Jack and Rachel. She was a loving stepmother to Scott Torrence, Brian Torrence and Claire Swauger and grandmother to their children.

Also surviving are her siblings and their families, Barbara Peck, Virginia Wade and Thomas Whitaker IV.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice and Mayflower staff and Dr. Lyons for their care and support.

Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In her memory, donations may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450.
