Summer Teacher Institute Scheduled at MGCC

| Clifton Forge, VA (May 31, 2023) - Mountain Gateway Community College is hosting the annual Summer Teacher Institute, for area teachers to earn continuing education credits, beginning June 19. Ten two-day, one-credit courses, will be held in Warren Hall on the MGCC Clifton Forge campus; one of the courses is being offered online, beginning May 30. Several of the instructors are members of the faculty and staff at MGCC.
Instructor Hugh Bouchelle will teach two courses: “The Dynamic Classroom,” June 19-20, and “The Power of School Clubs,” June 28-29.
“Early Childhood Curriculum” will be taught by Erin Johnson on June 21-22, and Alissa Cruz is the instructor for “Creating a Mental Health Centered Classroom,” June 26-27. “Trauma Informed Care of Students” will be taught by Suzanne Ostling July 10-11. Jose Aragones is the instructor for “Basic Spanish for Educators,” July 12-13.
Carol Watson will teach two courses: “Hands-On Manipulatives and Interactive Strategies,” July 17-18, and “Children’s Literature to Support Content Areas,” July 19-20.
“Educator Bandwidth” is the topic for the July 24-25 course to be taught by Ashley Pratt, and Ben Worth is the instructor for “Decoding Dyslexia,” July 26-27.
The 4-credit online course, “Introduction to Forestry and Wildlife Science” is scheduled May 30-July 27, and is being taught by Billy Newman.
Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Advanced registration is required and payment is due upon registration.
