Low Moor, VA (March 9, 2025)— This past week, the Alleghany Journal caught up with the Alleghany High School (AHS) Musical Theatre Department to capture a few photos, take some video, and do an interview with a few of the stars of their upcoming production, "Shrek the Musical." The highly anticipated show is set to debut later this month.
According to the cast, and a flyer sent to us by Director Amanda Sprouse, there will be three showings between March 21 and 22 in the Alleghany High School Auditorium. On the 21st, there will be a 7 p.m. show, and on the 22nd, there will be shows at 3 and 7 p.m. The cost of admission is $8 for adults and $5 for all students and AHPS staff.
Many of the students are playing multiple roles, like Kenny Sprouse who plays four, including Pinocchio whom Sprouse described as a "small wooden boy who's in denial." Paisley Brooks also plays four, including the lovable Gingerbread man, while Megan Powell plays two. Her most iconic role will be that of Princess Fiona. Meanwhile, stars Ella Hicks and Mason Hall each play only one role: Shrek and Donkey, respectively. Clips of their interview will soon be available on the Alleghany Journal Facebook page.
The production includes 23 songs and an intermission where food and drinks will be served in the cafeteria. The cast will also be available during intermission to chat with and assist in the cafeteria as needed.
