Covington, VA (Aug. 30, 2025)— This past week, many locals noticed a sudden weather change as the summer heat dissolved into crisp autumn-like breezes. It was a gentle reminder that the leaves will soon be turning from bright green to brilliant shades of amber, pumpkin, and mocha. With chilly weather on the horizon, the Southern Steele Salon decided to host a September Coat Drive to ensure all local children will be warm this season.
Tia Steele, owner of the salon, spoke briefly with the Journal about the Coat Drive each of her stylists are participating in. It's quite simple: donate a coat, get a free haircut. "...If people want to bring a coat in, but they don't necessarily need a haircut yet, we can issue them a gift card so they can come back at another time to get it done," Steele said. "If they want to bring them [coats] early, we can still give them a gift card to come back."
Anyone can donate a coat for a school-aged child and all coat sizes are needed, as even high-schoolers will benefit from the drive. Steele also said that donors are recommended to make an appointment for their free haircuts, as walk-ins have been "few and far between" lately with the stylists being extremely busy these days.
The Coat Drive is happening all September-long at the Southern Steele Salon, located at 804 S. Highland Avenue in Covington. Appointments can be made with any of the four stylists: Tia Steele (540-958-1545), Lexi Ostling (540-816-8263), Lexi Stewart (540-816-8228), or Payton Reynolds (540-968-0739). | | The Southern Steele Salon is located at 804 S.
