Annual 'Nicelytown Picnic and Gospel Sing' Huge Success By Jennifer Bailey Staff Writer   Clifton Forge, VA (Aug. 30, 2025)— This year's "Nicelytown Picnic and Gospel Sing" went off without a hitch. Dozens showed up with arms full of covered dishes and quickly filled up the auditorium at Lone Star Advent Christian Church on Nicelytown Road. The annual picnic, which was started some 20 years ago in honor of the late Nancy Nicely, began at 5:00 p.m. with some very good eating before moving into the Gospel Sing, which got started around 6:00 p.m. and ran until around 8:00 p.m. The event featured "The Announcers;" "Narrow Road;" "The Grizzly Disciples;" a solo by Megan Powell; a performance by Robin Powell with daughters, Megan and Abigail; and a surprise, impromptu performance by "Milk and Honey." The Journal was on hand to capture a few photos and video of the event, all which will be available soon on the Alleghany Journal Facebook page and YouTube channel.
