Morris Hill Campground Open Until October 31

| Covington, VA (Sept. 4, 2025) - Recreationists to James River and Warm Springs Ranger District will have an opportunity to lengthen their camping season until October 31 at Morris Hill Campground. Originally set to close September 3, campers will have a longer seasonal window to see the fall colors along the backdrop of Lake Moomaw. The campground offers scenic views from its perch on a ridge above the southern end of Lake Moomaw. Located just a half-mile from the lakeshore, this campground provides easy access to a sandy swim beach, a fishing pier, boat ramp and hiking and biking trails.
“By extending the season for Morris Hill Campground it will give our visitors an opportunity to enjoy the Fall season at Lake Moomaw. This area has so much to offer, and we want to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers who are a big part of our recreation program at the lake." District Ranger Kevin Kyle said.
This all wouldn't be possible without the help of the many volunteers who maintain Morris Hill Campground by leaf blowing, cleaning sites, maintaining the restrooms, mowing the grass and providing information to visitors. In addition, they maintain Fortney Boat Launch and Coles Point Day Use Area.
Reservations can be made by visiting Recreation.gov. Reservations must be made two days ahead of arrival and can be made up to six months in advance for standard sites and 12 months in advance for group sites. | | | | | |
