Obituary for Connard C. Maynard Connard C. Maynard
World War II Quartermaster Veteran Worked With Robertson-Fowler Construction Co.

Connard C. Maynard, 93, of Covington, Virginia died Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Lewis-Gale Alleghany in Low Moor.

Mr. Maynard was born May 17, 1926 in Inez, KY, a son of the late Monroe and Lola Bowen Maynard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Melva Webb Maynard; a son, Connard Dwight; a son-in-law, James "Harvey" Simmons; two sisters, Donne and Arwona; four brothers, Orvil, Carson, Hershel, and Lee.

Connard served his country in World War II as a quartermaster in the U. S. Army. Following his service to his country, he worked for Robertson-Fowler Construction Co. for 30 years, helping complete many projects both locally and regionally, including building the road between Gatlinburg, TN and Cherokee, NC, numerous stretches of I-64, I-81, and the Gathright Dam. Before his retirement, he was the owner of Sunoco in Covington.

Surviving are three sons, Keith Maynard (Patty Bowles), Kenneth (Roxanne) Maynard, both of Covington, and Jerry (Donna) Maynard of Naples, FL; two daughters, Lisa Maynard (Laurie Graham) of Lynchburg and Connie Simmons of Covington; a grandson, Shawn (Amy) Simmons of Covington; three granddaughters, Randi Lynn (Andy Bostic) and Tara (Larry) Brewster, both of Covington, and Kayla (Megan) Maynard of Richmond; seven great-grandchildren, Bradley, Brandon, Ashley, Jaxon, Elizabeth, Larrah, and Connard; numerous nieces and nephews; and two special caregivers, Tonya Wolfe and Lorna Perkins.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Noel officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Curtis A. Smith VFW Post 1033.

Active Pallbearers will be Aubrey Bowling, Wayne Perkins, Jimmy Haynes, James "Cheeze" Smith, Dave Wiley, Larry Brewster, Shawn Simmons, and Jim Brown.

The family will receive friends Saturday, December 28, 2019 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Connie Simmons, 219 E. Gray St., in Covington.
