Covington Native Worked With Industrial Rayon, Hercules And The Greenbrier Hotel

Mrs. Mary Brown Entsminger, age 89, of Covington, Virginia died Friday, January 24, 2020 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor.

She was the wife of Ernest Grant Entsminger.

Mrs. Entsminger was born January 13, 1931 in Covington, the daughter of the late Earl Henry Brown and Willye Hinton Brown.

During her working career, she had been employed by the former Industrial Rayon, the former Hercules, and was employed as a massage therapist by the Greenbrier Hotel before her retirement. Mary enjoyed embroidery, sewing, gardening, cooking and even worked on the cookbook for her church. She was a member of Alvon United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Entsminger is survived by three sons, Julian Robert Entsminger and wife, Patricia of San Bruno, CA, Richard Grant Entsminger of Harrisonburg and Stuart Lee Entsminger and friend, Pamela Wyatt of Goldsboro, NC; two daughters, Susanne Spindler and husband, Leo of South Carolina and Ernestine E. Tzer of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Tyler Wright, Grace Critzer, Aaron Critzer, Jared Critzer, Laura Karwoski and Joshua Spindler; a brother, Earl "Buddy" Brown and wife, Garsilda of Covington; a sister, Beverly Brown Barnett of Covington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Entsminger was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Entsminger; a son, Ernest Entsminger; four sisters, Frances Louise Brown, Margie Brown Smith, Phyllis Brown Watts and Betty Brown Wilhelm.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Alvon United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Craft officiating, assisted by Rev. David Watts, Rev. Bobby McClintic and Rev. Buck Caldwell.

A private family interment will be held at Johnson Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
