Obituary for Walter David Burkitt Walter David Burkitt
Rockbridge County Resident Was General Motors Retiree

Walter David Burkitt surrendered to the loving and gracious arms of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, February 2, 2020, after a courageous battle with heart failure.

He was the last surviving child of James Claude Burkitt and Laura Margaret Slagle Burkitt.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Richard Burkitt, Jim Morris, Jimmy Dean Burkitt, and one sister, Esther Hoffman.

He attended the Ebenezer A. R. Presbyterian Church and retired from General Motors with 28 years of service.

Walter was survived by his loving wife, Edith Nicely Burkitt; four sons, Russell Todd Burkitt, Shannon Wade Burkitt, Christopher Eric Burkitt and Justin Shane Burkitt; two granddaughters, Shelby Burkitt and Cameron Burkitt. Also step-children and step-grandchildren, several cousins, nephews and nieces.

Special thanks to Rockbridge Area Hospice caregiver, Melissa Brown, the Rev. William (Bill) Harris, Mr. Carl Knick and the Ebenezer church family.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2020 at Harrison Funeral Chapel by the Rev. William Harris and the Rev. Cindy Carr. Burial will follow at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
