Obituary for Joyce Vass (Joy) Tingler Joyce Vass (Joy) Tingler
Co-Founder, Co-Owner Of The Car Shop Dies At Age 71

Joyce Vass (Joy) Tingler, 71, of 1010 Apache Court, Covington, Virginia died Friday, February 14, 2020 in the Brian Center Nursing Home at Low Moor.

Mrs. Tingler was born in Alleghany County, February 21, 1948, a daughter of the late Charles E. Vass, Jr. and Margie Kessinger Vass.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Parker L. Tingler, Jr. in 2018 and also by two sisters, Margie Potter and Patricia Gail Hoke.

She was the co-founder and current co-owner of the Car Shop, Inc.

She was a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday School for over forty years.

She enjoyed going antique shopping with her late husband.

Surviving are her son, Chris Tingler and Ashlei Balser of Covington; her brother, C.E. Vass, III and his wife, Terri of Fincastle; her sister-in-law, Dreama Wade and her husband, Mike of Covington; five grandchildren, Ashli Fridley and her husband, James; Breanna Tingler and Chris Tingler, Jr., who were raised in her home; Huston Tingler, Benton Parker Tingler and Dalton Pennington, all of Covington; one great grandchild, Mila Fridley of Covington; and special friends, Elaine and Billy Price of Covington.

The funeral service will be held Monday, February 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Price officiating.

Interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Durwin Waddell, Eddie Clemmons, Daniel Harmon, Troy Helton, Robertr Campbell, Patrick Wade, Chuck Vass and David Hayslett.

Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Gibson, Sr., Pettie Gibson and Steve Gibson.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial donations in Joy's name be made to the Faith Baptist Church Building Fund, 311 Jackson Drive, Covington, VA 24426.
