Retired Westvaco Millright Was Temple Baptist Church Member

James Elwood Cronk, age 82, of 408 Winding Way, Covington, Virginia died Sunday, February 23, 2020 at LewisGale Hospital Alleghany in Low Moor.

Elwood was born February 4, 1938 in Bath County, Virginia to the late James Rudolph and Joy Corbett Cronk.

He was a millwright for Westvaco and served in the United States Army Reserve.

He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and a life member of The Alleghany Gun Club. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association, the Carpenters Battery Confederate Veterans, and the No Check-em Hunt Club.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Hefner "Ginny" Cronk of Covington; two daughters, Karen Givens and husband, Richard of Covington and Katie Bazzrea and husband, Bruce of Clifton Forge; a son, James Terry Cronk and wife, Debra of Covington; a sister-in-law, Linda Taylor and husband, Alfred; a brother-in-law, Charles T. Hefner and wife, Lu; four grandchildren, Jacob Givens and wife, Jordan, Jessica Nicely and husband, Daniel, Paige Walker and husband, Casey, and Kelly Ann Bazzrea; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Ed Toombs.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Bill Hartsfield officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Jacob Givens, Ed Toombs, Casey Walker, Daniel Nicely, Henry Fogus, Horace Cooke, Robert Campbell, and Larry Plecker. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Lockhart, Charles Corbett, Andy Corbett, and all members of the No Check-em Hunt Club.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Temple Baptist Church, 300 Stratton Street, Covington, VA 24426.
