Paint Bank Native Was Known As "Mama J"

Mrs. Donna Dean Rose Johnson, age 76, of Covington, Virginia passed away on March 8, 2020 at her residence.

She was the wife of James Ryland Johnson.

Donna was born on October 24, 1943, the daughter of the late Cecil Layman Rose and Helen Helms Rose of Paint Bank.

She was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1962 and attended Radford University.

In her lifetime, she attended services at both Temple Baptist Church and First Christian Church.

During her working career, Donna was employed by the former Hercules, Richardson-Vail Furniture Store, Tri-County Furniture and Wal-Mart, where she loved working in customer service.

She was affectionately known as "Mama J" by both choir and band members of Covington High School by chaperoning, organizing and helping her daughters classmates. She enjoyed collecting knick knacks, small antiques, country music, watching NASCAR and later in life, being on Facebook and catching up with old friends.

In addition to her husband of 53 years, Donna is survived by her daughter, Beverly Gail Johnson and her partner, Lindsey Livesay, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 16, 2020 at Alleghany Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating.

The family will receive friends at Loving Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2020.
