Obituary for Clarence Edward Hodge Clarence Edward Hodge
Lewisburg Resident Was World War II Veteran, Longtime Coal Miner

Clarence Edward Hodge, 93, of Lewisburg, WV, formerly of Hines, WV, passed away at the Greenbrier Health Care Center on April 3, 2020.

Born on February 13, 1927 at Eccles, WV, he was the son of the late John Manuel and Hattie Decker Gill Hodge.

Having attained the rank of sergeant in the U. S. Army, he was a World War II veteran having served in Germany in 1945 and 1946.

With over 40 years' experience, he was a coal miner for Leckie Smokeless Coal Company, Imperial Smokeless Coal Company and Westmoreland Coal Company. He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America. After a mining accident in 1954, he became active in the Rupert Church of God, later in life the Caldwell Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Emmanuel Open Bible Church in the final days of his life.

Clarence enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, time with his family and repairing whatever was broken.

Left to cherish his memory and the good times together are his wife of 73+ years, Cora Elizabeth; sons, Clarence William (Les) of Lewisburg and James Edward (Debra) of Beckley; daughter, Brenda Gay (Clyde) of Princeton; grandchildren, Tammy Gross (Robert) of Bland, VA, Brian Hodge (Michelle) of Beckley, Joey Cooper (Jessica) of Princeton, Stephanie Robinson (Clay) of Hurricane, and Aaron Hodge (Rhonda) of Lewisburg. Also surviving are nine great grandchildren with an addition expected in October.

Due to the regulations associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, and out of love and respect for extended family and friends, a private service for only the immediate family will be held with Pastor Aaron Hodge and Pastor Everette "Hat" Defibaugh officiating. Entombment will be in the Rosewood Cemetery Mausoleum, Lewisburg, WV.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff at Greenbrier Health Care Center and Greenbrier Physicians for their excellent care during his final days.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations of sympathy be made to the Emmanuel Open Bible Church, P. O. Box 146, Maxwelton, WV 24957.
