James Edward Gibson, 78, of Raphine, Virginia was called home on Wednesday, April 15, 2020.

Born March 4, 1942 in Amma, W.Va., he was the son of the late Evert Gibson and Lillie B. Gibson.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Maize Gordon Gibson; and three sisters, Diane Yoke, Donna Harris, and Wilma Harris.

James retired from Reeves Brothers in Buena Vista before working as a custodian at Central Elementary in Lexington.

He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and husband.

He enjoyed gardening and Sunday dinners with his family.

He is survived by his stepchildren, Lynwood Gordon and Darlene Vest (Howard) of Lexington, and Alice Sorrells of Waynesboro; brothers, DeWayne Gibson and Harold Gibson of Lexington, Charles Gibson and Sanford Gibson of West Virginia; sisters, Mary Hogges and Tanzy Harris of West Virginia; sister-in-law, Mary Brads (Johnny) of Lexington, stepdaughters-in-law, Lynda Gordon and Erlinda Gordon of Lexington; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private graveside service will be held at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
