Obituary for Patricia Ellis Vannorsdall Patricia Ellis Vannorsdall
Artist Also Was Accomplished Singer, Pianist

Patricia Ellis Vannorsdall of Medina, Ohio passed away April 15, 2020 at age 94.

She was born August 19, 1925 to Harry and Dorothy (nee Shattuck) Ellis in Cleveland, Ohio.

Though the family lived in Cleveland and Berea, Ohio, most summers and holidays were spent at her grandparents’ farm in Hambden Township.

She was a 1943 graduate of Berea High School and attended the Cleveland Institute of Art. She married John W. Vannorsdall in December of 1945.

During her life, she lived in Blossom, New York; New Haven, Connecticut; Ithaca, New York; Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Orange, Massachusetts. She returned to Ohio in 2007, residing at the Western Reserve Masonic Community in Medina until her death.

During her life, Patricia's love of art and music were ongoing and shared with many. She was an accomplished singer and pianist and sang with a big band while in high school and college. She enjoyed visiting art museums and was a wonderful interpreter for those who accompanied her. Though her own art involved a variety of media, she excelled at wood sculpture, many pieces of which are treasured by family and friends.

Patricia was a gracious and welcoming hostess, an excellent cook, a skilled gardener and seamstress, and an appreciative grandmother. She was also a great lover of animals, supporting many animal rights organizations and, over her life, taking in strays which went on to live long, happy lives.

Patricia is survived by daughters, Leslie of Cleveland, Ohio and Joan of Clifton Forge, Virginia; son, Chris of Medina, Ohio; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Her husband of 74 years, the Reverend John W. Vannorsdall, passed away on April 5th of this year.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bauer Funeral Home of Valley City, Ohio. The service will be private, with a celebration of life service to be held when family can safely gather to remember.

Memorial donations can be made to the Medina County SPCA and Zion Lutheran Church of Valley City, Ohio.
