Barry Phillip Chittum, Sr., age 68, of 608 N. Augusta Avenue, Covington, Virginia died Saturday, May 9, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Chittum was born February 3, 1952 in Lexington, a son of the late George and Allena Montgomery Chittum.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother.

He retired in 2014 from the Public Works Department of the City of Covington after 40 years of service.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Elta McCray Chittum of Covington; two sons, Charles Chittum and Barry Chittum, Jr., both of Covington; three sisters, Rita DeGuzman and her husband, Robert, Janet Kidd and her husband, Billy, and Jean Shinault, all of Covington; one brother, John Chittum and his wife, Anna of Covington; and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A funeral service will be held at a later date.
