Hot Springs Resident Dies At Age 75

Joyce Leona Swindell Salyers, 75, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at her residence, 1774 Main Street, Hot Springs, Virginia.

Joyce was formerly of Norfolk, Virginia. She was born February 19, 1945 in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Cleon Lee Swindell and Ruth Joan Danilchuk Swindell, who both preceded her in death.

Joyce was married to Charles Edward Salyers, who preceded her death on July 28, 2013.

She retired from the Homestead Resort as a pool attendant. Prior to that she was the owner of Anew Cleaning in Norfolk with her sister, Diana, worked for Door Engineering and Bill Downes Pontiac.

She was a member of Life Line Ministries and volunteered at Bath Animal Welfare Thrift Shop. She was a member of the Relay for Life "Butterfly Wishers Relay Team" and a volunteer for the American Red Cross.

She was a loveable person who had a contagious laugh and never met a stranger. She is loved by all and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by a son, Eric "Oh Son" Lee Salyers of Norfolk; a daughter, Trudy and husband, Russ Woodzell of Hot Springs; grandchildren, Erica Salyers and fiancé Michael "Buddy" French of Suffolk, Virginia, Anthony Hollard of Maine, Zach Woodzell and wife, Hannah of North Augusta, South Carolina and Ryan Woodzell and wife, Summer of Limestone, Tennessee; great grandchildren, Grayson Lee French and Mya Woodzell; sisters, Joan Greta Stallings and husband, Larry of Sandbridge, Virginia, Diana Ruth Golden of Coinjock, North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Salyers and Judy Salyers both of Norfolk, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Lea Fink.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date.
