Boxley Quarries Retiree Dies At Age 48

Richard Michael Irvin, 48, of 612 West Hawthorne Street, Covington, Virginia died Thursday morning, May 28, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Irvin was born September 20, 1971 in Alleghany County, a son of Virginia Thompson Irvin Biggs of Hot Springs and the late Boyd Irvin.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Cecil Irvin.

He retired from Boxley Quarries in Blue Ridge.

Surviving in addition to his mother, are his son, Gabriel Michael Irvin of Covington; his daughter, Faith Marie Irvin of Covington; three sisters, Betty Mabry and her husband, Perry of Covington; Marsha Sargeant of Wirt, WV; and Angie Perry of Glasgow; one brother, Frank Irvin of Covington; his companion, Danette O'Conner of Covington and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with the guidelines of the current pandemic crisis, a graveside service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating.

The family will gather one hour prior to service at Arritt Funeral Home.

Arritt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
