Ailie (Susie) Dale was born in Buena Vista, Virginia on March 19, 1928 to Violet and Benjamin Staton.

She died peacefully in her sleep with her daughter by her side in Key West, Florida on June 9, 2020.

She lived her early years in Pennsville, N.J., until her husband, Branch Carpenter Sr., passed. She then moved back to her hometown to be near her siblings.

She was known for her love of the Lord and music. Susie played the guitar, autoharp, and accordian. Many days she and her sisters, Gin Moore and Doris Camden, would visit nearby jails or nursing homes to play music, sing, and pray for those in need. She liked to paint sceneries and loved animals and children of all ages.

She took care of her husband, Glen Dale until his passing then moved to Richmond to be near her children.

In 2018 she went to Key West to enjoy the warm weather and loving care of her daughter and son-in-law, Dorcas and Whit Robertson. Susie was predeceased by her husband, Glen Dale, and her siblings, Buddy Staton, Charlie Staton, Doris Camden, Alice Moore, her granddaughter, Tammy Price, and her loving companion, Fluffy.

Susie is survived by her children, Mary Anna Mundt, John Carpenter Sr., Branch E. Carpenter Jr., and Dorcas Robertson. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Darryl Smith, John Carpenter Jr., Tina Carpenter, Beejay Carpenter, and Niki Epps; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family gives their warmest gratitude to all of those who cared for Susie, especially Tracey Wills of Richmond and Marcia Whyte of Key West. She will be loved and missed by the many friends, family, and strangers that she touched throughout the years.

Graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the Green Hill Cemetery in Buena Vista.
