Hot Springs Native Was Seamstress, Former Owned Of The Ashwood Shell General Store

Ella Williams Nelson, 88, of Hot Springs, Virginia passed away Saturday, August 15, 2020 at her residence.

She was born April 29, 1932 in Hot Springs, Virginia, the daughter of the late Jessie Davis Williams and Barbara Thelma Loan Williams.

Mrs. Nelson was employed as a seamstress for Jane Colby Sewing Factory. Prior to that she was the owner of Ashwood Shell General Store.

She was a member of the Hot Springs Baptist Church and enjoyed crafting, especially crocheting and bead work. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She was married to the late Ralph Leonard Nelson, Jr. who preceded her in death on March 18, 2019.

Surviving are her children, James "Jamie" Nelson of Hot Springs, Jackie Nelson and wife, Phyllis of Grover, North Carolina, Anthony "Tony" Nelson of Elliston, Virginia; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Janice Nelson and Joanie Bogan; two brothers, Elmer Williams and Freddy Williams; and a sister, Frances Livick.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral with Pastor Scott Reese officiating. Interment will be in Windy Cove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Nelson, Kendell Nelson, Eddie Nelson, Ron Shifflett, Richard Dalton and Don Bogan.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to all of her caretakers, Vickie Brinkley, Tina Miller, Twilla Boyd; her friend who frequently visited her and read to her, Johnanna Hargreaves; The Staff of Mountain Regional Hospice; The Staff of Bath Community Hospital; and The Staff of McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
