Debra Leslie Humphrey passed away on August 17, 2020 in her home in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

She was born on February 11, 1947 in Lexington, Virginia at the "Stonewall Jackson" house when it was the city hospital.

Debi graduated from Lexington High School in 1964. She earned her bachelor of arts degree from Madison College (James Madison University) in 1968 and her master's in education in 1994 from the University of Louisville.

She was a high school teacher until she married Lt. Frank Humphrey on February 20, 1971. She was the consummate Army wife like so many military wives who man the home front when their husbands are away. As an Army wife she helped care for the soldiers and their families during the Cold War while in Germany for a total of nine years.

Given her family's athletic background, she played women's softball and coached T-Ball for the youngsters while in Germany. While stateside at Fort Hood and Fort Knox, she taught Basic Skills and Education to many soldiers. She enjoyed teaching adults the most.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett Graham "Buck" Leslie Jr. and Mary Jacquelin Brown, her brother Emmett Graham "Bucky" Leslie III, and her son, Frank T. Humphrey III.

She is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. Frank "Chip" Humphrey; a daughter, Mary Leslie and her wife, Erica and two children, Justice and Cody.

Due to COVID, a private ceremony will be held in the Lexington Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on October 17 and will be followed by burial in the Lexington's "Stonewall Jackson Cemetery." The Rev. Tom Groome of the Lexington Presbyterian Church will oversee the services.
