Mrs. Mildred McMullen Childs, of Charlottesville, Virginia, formerly of Covington, died Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Cedars Healthcare Center.

She was the wife of the late James Norman Childs.

Mrs. Childs was born in Covington, the daughter of the late Willie Edward McMullen and Dollie Downey McMullen.

At a young age, her parents dressed her up and true to form, she sang just like Shirley Temple. Her talent with singing allowed her to be able to sing duets with Frank Dixon in church as well as solo performances. Many a wet eye was noted in the congregation when she sang. She really had the voice of an angel.

After a whirlwind courtship with James Norman Childs, the two were married and lived in several places while raising their children.

A wonderful mother and housewife, Mrs. Childs was quick to take on jobs to support her family and was the first to respond if anyone needed help of any type. She instilled in each of her children a love of God, Country, Family and others. Nicknamed by her husband "Bulldog" because if she got involved with an issue, challenge or dispute, she wouldn't let it go until it was solved.

Mildred never meet a stranger and she "touched" all she met as well as ministered to all in need. Our Mom was a great woman and we will miss her and look forward to that reunion on the other side.

Mrs. Childs is survived by her two sons, Richard Childs of Morrisville, NC and Joseph Childs of Anchorage, AK; daughter, Christina Bray of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Childs was preceded in death by her sisters, Francis Garber and Libby Jackson; and her brother, Jimmy McMullen.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 13, 2020 at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Pastor Steve Noel officiating.
