Obituary for Charlene Whiteside Falls Charlene Whiteside Falls
Rockbridge County Resident Dies At Age 85

On Monday, December 14, 2020, Charlene Whiteside Falls, loving wife and mother passed away peacefully at the age of 85.

She was born on June 2, 1935 in Rockbridge County to William and Beulah (Cash) Whiteside.

She graduated from Brownsburg High in 1954 and worked at the Weinberg Music Store and the theatre in Lexington. On December 26, 1957, Charlene married the love of her life, Lewis Falls Jr. He says it will always be his best Christmas present, and they shared almost 63 years together.

She was a devoted wife to Lewis and mother to her two children, Greg and Carolyn. She treasured her family and dedicated her time to caring for them. She welcomed friends into her home and was a willing "second mom" to many. She especially loved her role as a grandmother. Her two grandchildren, Sarah and Gregory were the light of her life.

Charlene loved to care for others. She was always ready to help family and friends, watching her grandbabies when they were young, cooking meals, making brownies for church events and the local fire stations and babysitting her grandpups. She made friends wherever she went with her quick smile and generous heart. She was an avid gardener and sports enthusiast and in her later years loved to be outside and bird-watch with Lewis.

Mrs. Falls was predeceased by her parents, William D. and Beulah D. Whiteside; brother, Edward Whiteside; sisters, Jean Edwards, Vivian Nicely, and Shirley Fitzgerald.

She is survived by her husband, Lewis Falls Jr.; son, Gregory Lewis Falls and daughter-in-law Gisele; daughter, Carolyn Boocks and son-in-law, Joe; grandchildren, Sarah Michelle and Gregory Lewis Falls Jr.; sisters, Dottie Whiteside, Emily Nuckols (Richard), and Phyllis Staton (Roy); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Charlene will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but we take comfort in knowing that she is with our Heavenly Father watching over us.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 21 at 2 p.m. at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens, 116 Peaceful Lane, Lexington, VA 24450. A memorial service is planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that a donation be made in Charlene's name to the Kempsville Volunteer Rescue Squad or Community United Methodist Church Fellowship Sunday School Class.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
