Former Owner Of Gregory's Dog And Cat Inn Dies In Florida At Age 79

Aleata Rue Gregory, 79, of Edgewater, Florida, formerly of Covington, Virginia, suddenly passed away in the comfort of her home on Sunday, December 13, 2020.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Gregory; her parents, Lewis and Helen Rue and her sisters, Carolyn Naud and Suzette Budrik.

Mrs. Gregory was born May 13, 1941 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

In her younger years, she was an army brat and moved from place to place. After high school, she attended college to obtain an associate's degree in business management.

For the majority of her life she was the business owner and operator of Gregory's Dog and Cat Inn, located on Potts Creek in Covington, Virginia.

In 2002, she and her husband retired and relocated to Edgewater, Florida, where she has remained for the last 20 years. During her time in Edgewater, she held down a job as a waitress before becoming a lead information officer of Edgewater Landing.

In her spare time, she was an avid motorcycle rider and conducted dog obedience classes. Some of her greatest accomplishments include being a detective wildlife rescuer, a citizen on patrol, and her time spent working with NASA.

She is survived by her daughter, Athena (Marshall) Chittum of Covington, Virginia; sons, Malcolm (Tammy) Jones, Mark Jones, and Lewis John, both of Alabama; grandchildren: Zach (Elise) Chittum, Emily Chittum (Jacob Armentrout), Miranda Chittum (Logan Peery), all of Covington, Virginia; Jeremy Jones and Zachary Jones, both of Alabama; great grandchildren: William Robertson, Krista Armentrout and Troy Chittum, all of Covington, Virginia; and Fox Jones of Alabama, along with a few close friends, Joan and John O'Brien and Nancy Mallory of Edgewater, Florida.

Aleata was always very thankful for the friendships she made throughout her life, and the people she met both in Edgewater, Florida and Covington, Virginia.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial will be held at a later date due to Covid-19.
