James (Jimmy) Kennan Camper, 85, of Fairfield, Virginia, passed away Monday, December 21, 2020 at Havenwood.

Born June 20, 1935 in Fairfield, he was the son of Russell Lowell Camper and Jessie Gladys McCormick Camper.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Russell Lowell Camper Jr., and three sisters, Janet Camper Knick, Wayne Camper Turner and Juanita Camper.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Alma Ayres Camper; one son, John Kennan Camper (Tracy); two granddaughters, Monica Nicole Camper Bryant (Kevin) and Jessica Marie Camper; and four great-grandchildren, Josie, Jenna, Jase and Jarrett Bryant.

Jimmy served in the United States Army in Korea and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

He spent many years cutting meat in local grocery stores.

Jimmy retired from Virginia Military Institute after 30 years of service wallpapering and painting, a job he truly enjoyed.

He was an Elder Emeritus with the Timber Ridge A.R. Presbyterian Church.

After retiring, Jimmy spent his time volunteering with the American Red Cross, Timber Ridge ARP Cemetery Committee, and taking care of his animals.

A private family graveside service will be held at Timber Ridge ARP Church.

The family would like to thank Cheryl, Brittany, and the entire staff at Havenwood Assisted Living for taking great care of our loved one.
