Ruth Jane Adwell Armentrout, passed away peacefully, January 1, 2021.

She was born in Caldwell, West Virginia, January 27, 1928, a daughter of the late Sylvester Adwell and Naomi Bennett Adwell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters and she was the last surviving member of the Adwell siblings.

She was also preceded in death by the love of her life, Winston Kelly Armentrout; a brother-in-law, Norris G. Armentrout and her in-laws, James Robert (Daddy Bob) Armentrout and Anna Kelly Armentrout.

Left behind to cherish her memory is her daughter, Bridgett Armentrout-Edwards and husband, Matthew L. Edwards; Timothy A. Broce, whom she loved like a son, and his wife. Angie Broce and their children; a niece, Robin Armentrout Mason and her children; two nieces and spouses of her sister, Anna Vaughn; Carol and Donnie Perdue and Linda and Nicki O'Brien and her best friend, Carol Patterson, whom she loved like a sister. She is also survived by a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins in Greenbrier County, West Virginia.

She was employed at the Hercules plant for a number of years and later worked in the housekeeping department at The Homestead.

Ruth's positive attitude was legendary. She would always find the bright spot and the silver linings in every situation, and she passed that gift onto her daughter, Bridgett. She had a zest for life, loved to laugh and was always up for a road trip. One of her favorite things in life was traveling all over the East Coast on motorcycles with her husband, Winston and several other couples.

She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, had a sharp mind and an amazing memory. She was very much aware of the world around her and would often call Bridgett to ask for clarification on a world event because she wanted to understand it better. She was a social butterfly: she had a lot of friends and enjoyed talking to them on the phone.

Until the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she loved going to her senior's exercise class and then going out for coffee with the "girls" after class.

She was a lifelong member of Falling Spring Presbyterian Church and she dearly loved her church family. Ruth's family is secure in the knowledge that she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and she rests comfortably in his arms with no pain or sorrow.

In keeping with the current Covid-19 pandemic guidelines, we are asking everyone in attendance to please wear masks and practice social distancing at all times.

The funeral service will be held January 7, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Matlack officiating.

Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
