Obituary for Mamie Ollie Shell Byers Mamie Ollie Shell Byers
Eagle Rock Resident Dies At Age 77

Mamie Ollie Shell Byers, 77, of Eagle Rock, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at home while under the care of Good Samaritan Hospice and her daughter.

Mamie was born and grew up in the mountains of North Carolina and then moved to Salem to the Lutheran's Children Home. Later she married and had kids.

Mamie was a CNA for over 35 years and enjoyed taking care of people. She loved everyone she met and welcomed them with open arms. Everyone called her "mom".

She became guardian over two mentally challenged young teenagers that she raised as her own. Mamie had been sick for over ten years and her daughter, Cindy, was by her side through it all. The family would like to express special thanks to the nurses that came out and cared for Mamie. They came as strangers but left as part of the family; Anita Kent and Sarah Quinlin.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Vicky Frith; mother, Fannie Short; and sister, Evelyn Short.

She is survived by her children, Wayne Frith and his two children; Rodney Frith; Henry Shell and wife, Kelley; Allen Burchell; Jeffery Burchell; Cindy Reese and her fiance, Christopher Miller; and numerous grandchildren who she loved dearly. Even though she didn't get to often see them, she held them close to her heart: Riley Miller, Sierra Hinkley, Brittany Ferguson, Jennifer Frith, Megan White, Joshua Ellis and his brother, numerous nieces and nephews; sisters, Joyce and Vernell, and many other family members and friends.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Donations in Mamie's honor may be made at the Alzheimer's Association, 484 Williamsport Pike #129, Martinsburg, WV 25404 or on their website.
