Patricia Shorter Smith, 78, of Lexington, Virginia, went to be with her beloved heavenly Father Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Born May 4, 1942 in Lexington, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Mildred Shorter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Smith; and granddaughter, Jessica Morris.

She was a member of the Rapps Mill Church, where she was a longtime elder, trustee and a member of the cemetery committee. In years past, she was an adult Sunday school teacher, choir member, sat on the after-school program board and also represented Rapps on the Palmer Board. Patricia also helped direct Christmas programs at the church for years.

She worked several jobs and for the last 16 years worked at the Manor of Natural Bridge as a medication aide.

Surviving are her children, Yvonne Wright (Ronnie), Pamela Morris (Dave), and Samuel Smith (Rhonda); grandchildren, Ronald, Heather, Amanda Wright, David (Kim), and Amber Morris; great-grandchildren, Preston and James Morris; and canine friend, Skippy.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 20 at Rapps Mill Church Cemetery with Pastor Gary Hill and Pastor Randy Smith.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Rapps Mill Church, c/o Patsy R. Landes, 4096 S. Buffalo Road, Lexington, VA 24450.
